Tuesday, June 19

We went to Anna's office at around 9am, she was not there, so we left a not that we would go to do some research for the Devil's Choice and be back later to see her. We went to the library and did research on other programs like this one on the internet. To our surprise, we could not find any similar programs at any other universities. We found a lot of healthy snack information for preschool, and elementry age children. We also looked up the criteria from the Winner's Choice program to use as our healthy snack criteria. We also came up with a few logo options. We went to lunch at Alpine Atrium. This was my first time eating there. It is in the Union and is mainly a salad, sandwich, and smoothie bar. I ordered a pasta salad and Cassie ordered a salad. We agreed that all of their portion sizes were too big, and everything should be sold in half-sizes. As a part of our Devil's Choice, eventually the hope is to apply the advertising to the eateries on campus as well. So Cassie and I are going to make sure this is something mentioned to Alpine if we get to go that far. After lunch, we headed back over to the student health center to check in with Anna. She was still busy in her office,so we went to the workroom down the hall, and started typing up our proposal for the Devil's Choice. Eventually Anna came to meet with us. She answered our questions and she invited us to come to two meetings on Wednesday. The first was the entire student health worker meeting, the other was a Healthy Promotions meeting, which is comprised of Student Health Center professionals that promote being healthy at Duke. She also invited us to come to the Real Deal script rewriting on thursday. Real Deal is a skit put on each fall for incoming freshmen to orient them to the health center and cover health topics that they can get help with at the Student Health Center. Anna is also going to try to get us in with a few of the individual student counseling sessions she has this week, if the student is willing to have one of us sit in and observe. Cassie and I left about 4:00. We walked back to the apartment and walked through the Duke Gardens to visit Marie and tell her about our week so far. She was in her office, and we sat and chatted for about an hour. Both Cassie and I had paperwork for her to fill out to get credit for the internship. Following our meeting with Marie, we walked over the the Rec center to work out for a while. I did machine weights while Cassie ran on the eliptical. It was 96 degrees outside today and muggy, so a good day to work-out indoors. We did manage to get the bus back and we took it to eat dinner at East campus. Once again the food was very tasty, and I had to have the pacific rim shrimp with vegetables over rice. We met a 16 year old dancer fro kasikstan. She had just arrived the day before to participate in the American Dance Festival and wanted to work on her English. She was very nice, and we were sad we couldn't direct her to a place nearby to get a Beyonce CD. She is going to be here for a month working on her dancing and performing. She was a very smart girl, and pretty brave also to travel half way around the world all by herself. After dinner Cassie and I went home to do a few more things on the Devil's Choice proposal. We completed the survey, nearly finished the brochure and report.
