Sunday June 17

We woke up in time to go to church at the Duke Chapel. It was about a 15 minute walk including some walking through the gardens. This really is a beautiful campus. Church was fairly similar to the Catholic masses. Since it is an interdenomenational mass there were some differences to. We said the lords prayer, did scripture readings, and sang songs. It is really cool to be in a church that they still use the organs during church service to sing along with. They are so loud it is hard to follow along and hear where everyone is at. The church reminds me a lot of the churches in Rome. The architecture is so detailed, and the stain glass windows are very large and pretty to look at. Not at all what the churches at home look like. They all are modern buildings with very few stained glass windows. I plan to spend some time just sitting in the chapel.

Later in the day we headed out to Bright Leaf Square I for some reason kept referring to it as Green Leaf Square. The restaurants and shops are supposedly one of a kind, and the buildings are old tobacco warehouses that have been renovated. the square is very small and has a few neat stores that we plan to go back in visit later in the summer. It reminds me of the riverside shopping area down by the Arch in St. Louis. Cassie and I had fun exploring the shops and restaurants.
In the late afternoon, we went and hung out by the pool. Today there were quite a few families and students down in the complex pool. This is the first time I have seen so many people in our complex, other than the guys who play basketball nearly every day. We left the pool early and headed over to the Marketplace for dinner. After dinner the only exciting thing I did was figure out how to get into and operate the laundry machines.
