We met Marie, our contact person thus far. She took us to breakfast and then gave Cassie and I a tour of the Union and foodservice operations on the West Campus. There are 26 different contracting
companies that provide all the food on campus. After our little tour, we went to meet with Jim, the Director of Dining Services for Duke. He asked us to come up with some improvements for Jim regarding dining and the students. This is a general assignment for the duration of our internship. He also wants us to meet with him on a weekly basis, and go out to lunch to discuss what we have been up to, and if there is anything else we would like to see and/or do. He showed us plans of the most recent project. It is was computer drawings of a bar on campus. Since the majority of the students live on campus and go off campus to drink, he thought it would be beneficial to have a bar on campus where the students could hang out and then walk right down the street to their living quarters.After our meeting with Jim, there was a luncheon to meet the rest of the staff in the department. After lunch, Marie drove us around
town to the local grocery store and target, to the East campus and gave us a small tour of the city so we coAfter our tour with Marie, she dropped us off back at the apartment. Cassie went for a run, and I went for a walk to the Sarah P. Duke Gardens to see what all the hype was about. I took several pictures of a few of the paths.
